Job Description
Are you looking for an internship where you are free to take initiative? Would you like to experience working in one of the biggest multinationals in the pharmaceutical industry? We are looking for a last year B. Sc. or M. Sc. student in biological sciences who is searching for a challenging internship in our innovative company?
Your internship project
As an intern you are responsible for …
Plasmid DNA vaccines are actively being used in aquatic animals as vaccine platform. Currently, the DNA vaccine for Salmon (DVS) project is in development, and the the second generation of plasmid DNA vaccines for salmon (DV2) is in feasibility. Recently, a scientific advise from the EMA strongly favours an antibiotic-free selection system in the plasmid DNA vaccines. Currently, the DVS plasmid makes use of an antibitic selection system. The Triclosan selection system seems to work well at small scale, but thus far failed in fermentation. Therefore, we are actively looking for alternative antibiotic-free selection systems for future plasmid DNA vaccines. The student will be responsible to evaluate two new antibiotic-free selection systems. The student will generate the recombinant E.coli host as well as design the new plasmid DNA selection systems. These new antibiotic-free selection systems will be tested at small scale and using batch fermentation.
Your responsibilities
Scan the literature and design an antibiotic-free plasmid selection system.- Construct the plasmids and modify the host bacterial genome to allow the system work.
- Test the system for plasmid selection and maintenance.
- Providing a fresh perspective within the department: your opinion matters.
The above-mentioned responsibilities are an indication of what you will be doing after proper onboarding and initial learning and development. This provides you with the opportunity to learn and hereafter perform tasks independently. In consultation with your supervisor, you could take on additional tasks and responsibilities.
